Mixing business with pleasure to raise money for Birmingham Children's Hospital
Showdown's Story!
Having loved boxing, both participating and spectating, from an early age but sadly unable to pursue a boxing career due to a neck injury; the next best thing for Keith - promoting and showcasing up and coming boxers and those who 'just want to have a go'.
May 2013 - Showdown Entertainment was founded. Rather than just hold a show, we wanted to raise money for worthwhile causes.
So, our first 'Fight Night' in May 2013 and 'Unfinished Business' in September 2013 were in support of Acorns Children's Hospice. When it came to our 'Christmas Cracker', we decided to help families direct. We were put in touch with an amazing little boy, Happy Little Hugh, and his inspirational family. We also gained a sponsorship via Midshire Business Systems.
After a successful first year it was full steam ahead and 3 more shows were penciled in for 2014. May-Hem in May (funnily enough) raised money for brave 8 year old Ethan. Ethan was then invited, as guest of honour, to officially open a new nursery in Erdington and made it into local newspapers.
Our September show, PayBack, was one of our most successful shows! We helped support Finlay, a 2 year old suffering with Cystic Fibrosis.
Season's Beatings in December 2014 raised funds for Lauren aged 5, also suffering from Cystic Fibrosis. We contributed towards a special vest to make life a little easier.
Showdown Entertainment soon became a name on peoples lips when people mentioned white collar boxing in Birmingham. Prospective boxers all over the country started putting their name down for future shows.
In 2015 we decided to hold our very first Prize Fighter! Very popular and what a great night!! The overall winner was Reuben who fought fantastically throughout the night and fully deserved his title and not forgetting his winnings!!
After much deliberation, as there were so many families we wanted to help, we decided to support Birmingham Children's Hospital - in particular Ward 15 (now Ward 18) - Children's/Teenage Cancer.
So, Mayhem 2 was held at Electric Nightclub in Birmingham!! Amazing venue, fantastic bouts and an amazing crowd! We presented Ward 15 with not just new books but jigsaws, board games and portable dvd players for bedbound children.
Sadly due to the closure of Electric, we had to source another venue; September 2015 brought Guts & Glory! This time we bought Playstations 4's, X-Box's, PSP's and Nintendo DS'. A lot of children are in isolation so were wholeheartedly appreciative to have some interaction.
Twas the Fight before Christmas saw another change of venue (due to licensing issues), The Venue in Edgbaston housed nearly 900 supporting some fantastic lads in the ring, including an exhibition bout featuring two 15 year olds. Much respect between them and a huge round of applause sounded out. We were able to kit out the playroom of Ward 15 with a whole range of toys.
Into the 4th year of Showdown Entertainment and the shows just kept proving popular.

Thank you for your continued support!
